There are many reasons continuing your education is a smart idea. My husband and I both found ourselves without a job about 5 years ago after the mortgage industry imploded. If either one of us wanted to find something outside of the industry we had to educate ourselves. My husband ended up going back to school to finish his degree. And I took some more specific certification courses that would help me grow within the marketing industry. Who knows when you may find yourself without a job and in need of learning new skills. But, here are five reasons to continue your education even when you are gainfully employed.
1. Invest in your career.
I always say you have to spend money to make money. Sometimes the tools you need to become more efficient or get ahead are expensive. But, you just have to remind yourself that in the end it will pay off. There really is no better return on investment than investing in yourself.
2. Enhance your skills.
It is important to ensure that your knowledge and skills are up to date with the trends affecting your industry. Things are constantly evolving, especially with how fast technology is moving today, so staying in the know will ensure that employers will continue to view you as a valuable asset.
3. Increase your earning potential.
Don't settle for a salary that is less than what you deserve. If you are looking to achieve a higher pay scale over the life of your career, gaining new skills though education is a great way to do it. Not only will it improve your marketability to employers, but it will increase your future net worth.
4. Demonstrate value to employers.
A great way to show employers that you are eager is to educate yourself. By investing the time and money it takes to continue your education you are sending a powerful message to employers that you are serious about improving your skill set to add value.
5. Discover your dream job.
If you are considering a change in careers, one of the best ways to learn about it and make sure it is a good fit is to take classes related. It will help you better understand what the career entails and how to apply your current skill set to the job.
