I'm a huge proponent of creating dynamic office spaces. It's important for your work space to be functional but is also needs to energize and inspire you. Our workspaces have become our home away from home (even for a home office). We put importance on making our homes welcoming and comfortable why wouldn't we carry that over to our workspaces? Here are my three rules to create a dynamic space you can fall in love with.
DEDICATE a space for your “office”. If you work from home your “office” can be as simple as a small table and chair with a file box underneath, a converted closet or a dedicated room. If you are like me and find yourself working on the go create an office in a box. I can't tell you the number of working lunches and off site events I've run from my “travel” office. Honestly, a dedicated space will make it easier to work, and legitimizes the work you are doing. And, darn it, you deserve your own space!
DE-CLUTTER by spending a few minutes each day putting your things away and preparing for the next day. You need an uncluttered desk, or table space, so you can actually do work there! Eliminate piles of paper by sorting them into daily action files and remember the 80/20 rule.
DECORATE your office. Paint is cheap, and artwork can be too. Rearrange your furniture for better flow. Make sure you have enough lighting. For those of you with a green thumb (something I'm lacking) think about adding a plant. I'm also a huge fan of cute office organization supplies, a sassy rug and a great chair. Do whatever it takes for you to feel good about your space and want to spend time there. You should have at least one item that makes you smile every day in your office.
What have YOU done to make you fall in love with your home office?
If your office leaves you uninspired and you need a helping hand falling in love we can help!
Happy Organizing!
