Marketing vs. Sales?
Early in my marketing career I received a piece of advice from the outgoing Director of Marketing that sticks with me and I am pretty sure I repeat it to myself every day.
"Marketing people get the information in front of the right butts. Sales people get those butts in seats." -R. Lewis
The job of the marketer is to get the information in front of as many people as possible, in a clear, concise way. I get people's attention and I make the phone ring. However, it is the job of the sales person to close the deal. I have always disliked that saying, probably because it sounds like a used car salesman trainer saying. But, in most cases it applies.
Without marketing you would not have prospects or leads to follow up with, but yet without a good sales technique and strategy your closing rate may depress you. Both are necessities to the success of a business. You cannot do without either process. By strategically combining both efforts you will experience a success amount of business growth.
