Nurturing relationships with your customers is a crucial
part of growing a successful business. Walt Disney said it best, “Do what you
do so well that they will want to see it again and bring their friends.”
Creating love between your company and your customers can help scale positive
word of mouth that’s absolutely priceless. Most businesses are failing when it
comes to the customer experience, which is your opportunity to swoop in and wow
those same customers with your personalized approach.
There are endless ways to build a relationship with your
customers. I personally am a huge fan of celebrating occasions…I blame my love
of throwing a good party. I like to keep a master calendar that I can highlight
birthdays, company milestones, and other details that deserve recognition
personal or professional. This applies to clients, potential clients and
industry contacts I work with.
At the beginning of the year I buy a monthly day planner
that I write any important dates and the occasion that I want to send a card or
note to a contact. I then take one trip to the store and purchase all the cards
I would need. I then place the cards in the correct month. At the beginning of
each month I write a personal note in the cards and mail them out.
It’s a simple system to update. When I add a client or have
a new occasion I just add it to the correct month and pick-up a few extra
cards. At the end of the year I buy a new calendar and copy the dates over. You
could certainly use an electronic calendar but I love having the ability to
keep the cards filed in the planner.
This is also a great time to show a little extra love to
your clients. Invest in a variety of gift cards that you can include with your
cards for extra special occasions. You don’t need to spend a lot $10-$20 is
more than adequate and will make an impact. A few of my personal favorites
include Starbucks,
